STUDENTS: Here are 8 reasons you should come to Winter Guard try-outs on THURSDAY, December 7th from 4-6:30pm in the Band Room (M102): DATE TBD
- You like to dance: Color Guard students train in a variety of dance styles. Performances may include a mix of ballet, jazz, modern and/or contemporary dance.
- You like to throw things: Color Guard students spin, twirl and toss props such as flags, rifles and sabers.
- You’ve got a competitive spirit: After marching band season ends, the Samohi Color Guard prepares an indoor show and competes against other high schools in tournaments sponsored by the Winter Guard Association of Southern California.
- A big “S” would look good on your jacket: After 3 seasons, Color Guard participants earn a Samohi Varsity letter.
- You want an impressive skill to list on college applications: Many colleges & universities are looking for students with Color Guard training. Some of them give annual scholarships or grants to every member of their Color Guards.
- You’re exploring alternatives to traditional P.E. classes: Students in the Winter Guard class receive P.E. credit, just like members of Samohi’s athletic teams and Pep Squad.
- You have an artistic side: Color Guard students have a hand in designing the backdrops and clothing for their Winter Guard show.
- You’re always hungry on Thursday afternoons: At try-outs we’ll provide drinks & snacks!
