October 6 is UCLA High School Band Day!

The Samohi Viking Marching Band (VMB) & Color Guard will perform a halftime show with 20 other high school marching bands and “The Solid Gold Sound” UCLA Marching Band! VMB students will have free admittance to the UCLA vs. University of Washington football game.

VMB Students will meet at Samohi AT 8:30 AM on Saturday, October 6, and ride buses to the Rose Bowl. After rehearsing with The Solid Gold Sound, the Samohi students will be served lunch with water, and then get dressed in their competition uniforms.

The game time has been set:  4:30 PM on October 6. The students are expected to arrive back at Samohi at 8:15 PM.

[UCLA Band Day – Samohi Itinerary]

For UCLA Band Day, VMB students wear the Viking helmet rehearsal shirt, with shorts or close-fitting leggings. For the performance, they will wear the uniform pants, jackets, and “Dinkles” marching shoes with BLACK SOCKS – no hats, gloves, or gauntlets. Color Guard students will receive instructions from their coach on what to wear.

As they prepare to enter the stadium, each student will be given a clear plastic drawstring backpack with two bottles of water. Students will be instructed:  DO NOT OPEN THE WATER BOTTLES. The Rose Bowl has a strict clear bag policy, and limits on the amount of liquid that can be carried inside. Water bottles must either be empty or have an intact factory seal.

The bags the students carry will be large enough to hold snacks, spare jackets, and other items for use after the halftime show. Marching uniform pants have pockets that can be used for safekeeping of cellphones and/or money or small wallets.

Tickets to the Game:

Parents can buy their own tickets to watch from the stands; all marching band students have free entry and will depart from and return to Samohi. The students will sit in either the north end zone (Gate N / Sections 11 & 12) or south end zone (Gate A / Sections 25 & 26). We will not know where Samohi will be seated until they enter the stadium on game day; however, tickets for both end zones are General Admission, and you can sit in either end zone after purchasing your ticket.

UCLA Athletics uses Ticketmaster to sell tickets online. Tickets in the General Admission Sections (North or South End Zone) cost $39 each, with no assigned seating. There is a $6.50 Service Fee per ticket and a $5.45 Order Processing Fee per transaction, for a total of $50.95 for a General Admission ticket.
